Our Review of the Book:

What made this book so great for those not familiar with clicker training, was how Morten and Cecilie clearly explain in detail the principles of clicker training, what makes this type of training an effective method, and most importantly it breaks down how to effectively use the clicker training method to train your dog. As they explain, many people who try clicker training on their dogs give up after a couple of weeks because they have no guidance and do not know the proper way to using the clicker method. They even state that “9 out of 10 clicker trainers use the technology poorly,” however; if used correctly it is one of the most effective training methods. In my years as a trainer I have come across many trainers who have used this method of training on show dogs and work dogs which were very effective.

Topics covered in the book:

An overview of the scientific principles behind clicker training.

The 7 different ways your dog learns – and how to use this to your advantage.

The implementation of positive training by reinforcing your dog’s desirable behaviors rather than punishing those that are undesirable.

How to properly motivate your dog, which is important to your success as a clicker trainer.

How to correctly introduce the clicker to your dog, known as “charging the clicker.”

In Conclusion:
Morten and Cecilie’s book is easy to read, easy to follow and a great resource for anyone looking for an effective training method. The use of the clicker “marks” the exact behavior you want to instill in your dog without the use of harsh leash pops, pinch collars, and physical force which can harm your dog. This book, Clickertraining: The 4 Secrets of Becoming a Supertrainer, takes you step by step through this method allowing you and you dog to be successful and get the exact result you are looking for. Here are the benefits of clicker training:

Reliable behaviors

Record time results

Uses Positive Reinforcement

Powerful training method

Used for tricks and obedience training
