6 Items You Should Have Before Buying a Puppy

With the holidays just around the corner, you are sure to see an increase in the number of people buying puppies. Yet, whether you are buying a cute and cuddly puppy for yourself or a loved one, there are 6 key items one should always buy before introducing a puppy into a new home.

First and foremost be Prepared! You will want to have already purchased the following items before your puppy arrives in its new environment:

A Food and Water Dish

A quality food and water dish should be catered to the type of puppy you will have. An elevated bowl for big dogs or a tapered and lower level bowl for dogs with long ears and who are small.

Chew Toys

Puppies like to chew things, especially if they are teething. One item that always does great with dogs is the KONG chew toy. Just put a little treat, or peanut butter in the middle of the toy and your new puppy will be occupied for hours. This will also help avoid chew marks on any shoes or chair legs.

Dog Crate

One of the best tools for training a new puppy is a Crate. Not only does it promote good house training habits, but it also serves as a place to keep your puppy whenever you are away from home.

A Dog Training Guide

When I first got my mini-dachshund I quickly learned that he was a stubborn breed, which made it difficult to house train. So in my search for a good dog training product I came across Secrets to Dog Training, which showed me how to positively reinforce good behavior while getting rid of any bad habits. Within a week I started to see results and I was on my way to having the perfect dog.

Name Tag, Collar, and Leash

A name tag is very important since it provides a name and number for people to call if ever your dog happens to find itself away from its home.

Pee Pads

If your puppy will become an indoor dog you may want to buy yourself some pee pads. However, it is important to be consistent where you decide to place the pee pads because that area will eventually become your dog’s permanent potty area.
